Important Note:
- The RAK3312 WisBlock Core Module is the successor to the RAK11200, which has reached end-of-life (EOL) due to the discontinuation of the ESP32-Wrover module by Espressif. RAK3312 offers improved performance and long-term availability. Existing RAK11200 users remain fully supported through documentation and resources.
- For the RAK4631 variant, selection between the Arduino version and the low-power RUI3 version is available. This supports both Arduino-based IoT development and low-power IoT evaluation depending on project requirements.
- If a non-rechargable battery is used with WisBlock Base Board it has to be unplugged before connecting the USB cable to the port on the board in order to configure the device. Not doing so might damage the battery and cause damage to the battery and board.
- If a battery is used with WisBlock Base Board, please check that the battery connector has the correct polarity. You can check the required polarity in our Documentation Center.
What Is the WisBlock Starter Kit
Start off the WisBlock journey with this bundle kit: the WisBlock Starter Kit. The RAK WisBlock Starter Kit provides a structured entry point into modular IoT hardware evaluation. It serves as a modular IoT starter kit for early-stage device prototyping and connectivity testing.
This bundle includes the WisBlock Base RAK19007 and a selectable WisBlock Core module. Together, they form a WisBlock development kit designed for evaluating wireless connectivity, firmware behavior, and power performance without custom hardware design. It functions as a LoRaWAN development kit with BLE for multi-protocol IoT evaluation.
Supported Connectivity Options & Core Modules
These Starter Kits offer a discounted bundle price compared to purchasing individual components separately.
Why You Need the WisBlock Starter Kit
Early-stage IoT development often stalls due to hardware mismatches, regional constraints, or unnecessary component sourcing. This IoT prototyping kit reduces those barriers and helps teams move from idea to working prototype more efficiently.
Why it’s useful:
- Faster setup: Reduces time spent sourcing and validating compatible core components
- Deployment readiness: Supports regional frequency selection for compliant testing and trials
- Design flexibility: Allows switching connectivity paths without replacing the base platform
Key Features of the WisBlock Starter Kit
-
Architecture
Standardized modular base-and-core architecture supporting removable and replaceable core modules without modification to the base hardware.
-
Core Module Interoperability
Supports multiple WisBlock Core modules, including LPWAN, BLE, and WiFi variants, enabling evaluation of different MCU and radio combinations on a single base platform.
-
Multi-Connectivity Evaluation
Supports multiple wireless communication technologies, including LoRaWAN, BLE 5.0, and WiFi (via RAK3312 core module). This allows evaluation of long-range, short-range, and IP-based connectivity options on a single hardware platform, unlike many development kits that support only a single radio.
-
Mechanical & Electrical Interface
Unified mechanical footprint and electrical interface across all supported core modules, ensuring consistent power routing and peripheral connectivity throughout the WisBlock ecosystem.
-
Firmware Support
Compatible with Arduino-based firmware for rapid application development and RUI3 low-power firmware for power-optimized operation and timing validation.
Key Benefits for IoT Prototyping & Evaluation
- Regional compliance validation: Functions as an IoT prototyping kit for regional LoRaWAN compliance, enabling accurate evaluation across EU868, US915, AS923, and other supported bands.
- Protocol-level evaluation: Supports side-by-side testing of LoRaWAN and BLE connectivity without redesigning hardware.
- Firmware flexibility: Allows developers to choose between Arduino-based development and low-power RUI3 firmware depending on project goals.
- Reduced design risk: Helps identify regulatory, power, and connectivity constraints early in the development cycle.
Regional Frequency Compatibility

Use Case Examples for WisBlock Starter Kit
These examples show how the kit supports practical development needs across different stages of connected product creation, particularly for engineers evaluating an IoT starter kit LoRa BLE platform before committing to custom hardware.
Use Case #1: Learning LPWAN Fundamentals
A hobbyist uses the kit to build a simple sensor node, sending periodic data over LoRa connectivity. The pre-matched base and core modules reduce setup errors, allowing focus on understanding network behavior and power usage
Use Case #2: First Wireless Prototype
An individual developer evaluates BLE communication by pairing the kit with a mobile device. Using the modular WisBlock platform, the prototype demonstrates basic data exchange without custom hardware design.
Comparison Table: WisBlock Starter Kit vs. Dragino LoRa Kit
