RAK2245 RPi HAT Edition
Concentrator for LoRaWAN
Gateway Module for LoRaWAN
RAK2245 Pi Hat Edition is the largest of the RAK2245 family, however, it offers complete compatibility with the Raspberry Pi 40pin header. Thus it is a perfect solution for a DIY gateway using the Raspberry Pi at its core. This makes for a quick to deploy LoRaWAN solution with low cost and stable performance.
As with the other modules in the RAK2245 line, it is based on the Semtech® 1301 and dual SX1257/58 front-end chips. It is a full-fledged 8 channel LoRa® concentrator with a number of improvements over the last generation (RAK831) of this product.
Note that if you buy WisLink Cellular Pi Hat RAK2013 as an individual pice it will not be compatible with WisLink LPWAN RAK2245 RPi Hat and WisGate Developer RAK7243/44(without Cellular) Gateways and vice versa. RAK2245 LPWAN PiHAT module that we use in our WisGate RAK7243/44C(With Cellular) Developer Gateways is modified.
- Fully functioning LoRaWAN® multichannel concentrator module (SX1301)

Questions and Answers
Can I use my own u.FL to SMA cable to attach an SMA type antenna?
Yes you can do this, as a matter of fact this is how it is also done in the Developer Gateways.
How many days is the shipping time to Manila, Philippines?
Shipping times are shown once you proceed to check out the particular item.
Hello. What are the specifications for the little LoRa antenna packaged with the Pi Hat?
We have no official spec. I can tell you what to expect though, as you have probably guessed no huge gain or amazing VSWR. Testing it it performas qdequatelly, however it is perhaps 20% worse than the gluestic as far as range goes, depending on the scenario. It is really only meant for testing and developement, as you might have guessed, if you want to deploy you would want to maximize range with a larger one.
Hi. When I order I have to choose a particular band, 433 for example. Is possible to change the band later to 915? Thank you in advance.
No, it is not possible. Make sure you pick the one you need from the start.
Can the RAK2245 act as node ?
I suppose it is technically possible, but you will have to do this on your won, we are not offering such functionality.
Plus, why would you use a Concentrator instead of a Node to use as a Node?
Hello, is it possible to use FSK only and is it possible to switch easily from LoRa to FSK modulation using the provided FirmWare? best regards Niko
It is possible in theory. You need to edit the Global_conf.json file in the packet forwarder to enable and disable the FSK/LoRa channels. There is no other way right now to do this easier, unfortunately.
We’re a unable to get the rak2245 working with the Semtech packet forwarder as we do with 831 and 833, have you ever make it work with it ? Does it use another version of the concentrator chip ? Or it must work right out of the box and we just got a defective one ?
We have tested multiple ones and they work. Please install the latest firmware from the link: https://downloads.rakwireless.com/en/LoRa/RAK2245-Pi-HAT/Firmware/
Let me know if there is any improvement after flashing the firmware.
Does the 1PPS signal go to a Pi GPIO pin or just internally to the SX1301? if not is there somewhere to pick up the 1PPS from the GPS with a jumper wire?
If you check page 7 of the following document, I believe pins 3 and 5 on the header are the ones connected to the GPS (I2C). Could those perhaps serve your purpose? https://downloads.rakwireless.com/en/LoRa/RAK2245-Pi-HAT/Hardware-Specification/RAK2245_Pi_HAT_User_Manual_V1.2.pdf
What type of antenna is included with the RAK2245? I want to use an outdoor antenna, is the Fiber Glass Antenna - 5.8dBi - N-Type to SMA antenna compatible with the RAK2245?
The included antenna is an iPEX pigtail. You can use the 5.8dBi antenna, however, you will need an iPEX to N-type cable. Make sure you choose this option when ordering your antenna (the connector on the RAK2245 is not SMA, but iPEX).
When will it be available again? 868 EU version.
It is back in stock now. Feel free to order.
Looking at the PCB of the Pi Hat there is a chip next to the GPIO header - what is it for? I want to wire the Stamp Edition to a Raspberry and wonder if this additional chip is crucial for stable operation.
This is the EEPROM for the pin mapping. This is indeed crucial if you want to have the proper pinout. If you are going to be wiring it yourself you can go without it, however, the pins need to be re-wired in the correct order in order to match the 40pin RPi header.
Here you have the pinout on the Stam edition (It is for the 96Boards doc, but they are the same)
Here are the additional ones on the side of the board (not the 40 pin header holes)
This is the document for the wiring of the PiHat to the Rpi:
You simply need to remap them in accordance with the last document. This can be done software wise in the Raspberry, or hardware wise via physical connections. It is some work, but you know best what your application you want to sue it for so choosing the Stamp is perhaps best (I would go with the Pi HAT cause I am lazy;))
I hope this helps.
Would this Gateway work in the new Raspberry PI 4?
If you mean the RAK2245 Concentrator module, yet it will work with Any raspberry Pi as they all have the same 40 pin GPIÖ header.
I followed Get Start with RAK2245 6 RAK831 RPI LoRa Gatewa Version V1.0 | May 2019 and tried to access the gateway through SSH (PuTTY) and get network error: Connection refused. On my Raspberry Pi screen I need the password for iotloragateway login Any help?
Did you connect to the Gateway via wi-Fi AP? Did you use the 192.168.12.1 IP Address? The username is "pi", password "raspberry".
Those are all in the manual? As I saw you replied via email and you still had no luck, what firmware version was the one you flashed as instructed in the manual you mentioned to have used for configuring the device?
Does this unit didn't have any antenna accessories on it? if not , do you have antenna connector from microFl to sma connector?
The RAK2245 Pi HAT edition comes with a LoRa and GPS antenna in the box. If yours we missing please let me know. If you want an iPEX to SMA cable you can order one here: https://store.rakwireless.com/products/ipex-to-sma-connector
Your store is hard to get into, I have selected product and want to pay by Paypal but it wants me to create a account, I don't want to create create a account, When I want to pay by Paypal it won't let me Login to Paypal.
At this point, it is required to register an account in the online store. You can not order any products without doing so. Thus any payment PayPal or other means is preceded by creating an account.
What is the price of shipping to Poland. Are there any additional taxes and fares?
Please refer to the store link. The shipping price depends on the products as things as size and weight affect them. There will also be the customs fee and the VAT fee, which depends on the Polish Government, thus they are not included in the price.
A more than affordable LPWAN solution
The RAK2245 RPi HAT is a low cost solution that fosters LPWAN adoption in some kind of IoT solutions. My first impression: .- Low-cost .- Fully integrated with open LoRa network-servers, either external or embedded: Chirpstack and The Things Network. There are large communities that can support you. .- Easy to use. I have still to test it in more complex scenarios, thus I have to check its performance with large amount of devices and basic analytics. It gets quite hot.
all equipment is as described, thanks
