What Is the Remote Reboot Switch for LoRaWAN?
The Remote Reboot Switch for LoRaWAN is a remote power controller that lets you remotely power-cycle and control connected equipment through downlink commands on LoRaWAN.
It is designed for gateways, LTE routers, IP cameras, WiFi access points, and other equipment installed where direct access can be difficult or costly. Instead of relying on local WiFi or cellular connectivity for recovery, operators can use an existing network on LoRaWAN to control the device’s power output.
The RAK9105U is available in two configurations with identical hardware and functionality. The only difference is the included connection accessory, allowing users to choose the most suitable option for their deployment.
- Custom Solutions: Includes a 4-pin terminal block for flexible wiring and integration into custom power and monitoring setups.
- RAK Battery Plus: Includes a dedicated cable for direct connection to RAK Battery Plus, enabling RS485 communication to read and report compatible battery data alongside remote power control.
Both configurations support Class C LoRaWAN operation and can be integrated with LoRaWAN network servers such as TTN, ChirpStack, RAK Built-in NS, and others
With a 12 VDC input, one always-on 12 V output, one remotely controllable 12 V output, and a controllable 5 V USB-C output, the RAK9105U enables remote equipment recovery and power management across distributed deployments.
Why You Need the Remote Reboot Switch for LoRaWAN
Equipment deployed at remote sites can occasionally require a manual power cycle. RAK9105U lets you perform this action through LoRaWAN, providing a dedicated path for remote device recovery while helping reduce unnecessary site visits.
Why it’s useful:
- Remote Reboot: Power-cycle connected gateways, routers, cameras, and other equipment without physically accessing the device.
- LoRaWAN Control: Send remote power commands through a LoRaWAN network without requiring a SIM or WiFi connection.
- Deployment Options: Choose an external VDC power source or integrate with RAK Battery Plus.
- Flexible Network Integration: Configure the device through WisToolBox and connect it to a compatible LoRaWAN Network Server (LNS).

Use Case Examples for Remote Reboot Switch for LoRaWAN
Remote power control supports operators managing distributed equipment where routine recovery would otherwise require physical access, including energy, surveillance, networking, and other unattended installations.
Use Case #1: Remote Gateway Recovery at a Solar-Powered Site
A remote energy operator finds a gateway unresponsive while its power system remains active. RAK9105U power-cycles the gateway through LoRaWAN, restoring remote access without a technician visit.
Use Case #2: IP Camera Recovery at a Wildlife Monitoring Station
After an IP camera stops communicating, a reserve operator sends a remote reboot command through the LoRaWAN network rather than accessing the site. The camera resumes operation.
