LongFi™ Technology
Helium LongFi™ is a technology architecture that combines a leading wireless technology, LoRaWAN, and the Helium’s innovative blockchain-based approach. LongFi™ is optimized for miles of range, low power and data usage, and long battery life for IoT devices.
Proof-of-Coverage
RAK Hotspot V2 earns Helium IOT tokens both when devices connect and utilize its coverage and for validating the wireless coverage provided by other Hotspots. Using a system called Proof of Coverage, RAK Hotspots earn more HNT when they're in range of other RAK Hotspots, but need to be at least 300 meters apart.
Coverage range depends on the environment - for flat rural areas coverage can extend up to 10 miles or more, but high-density urban areas typically see coverage ranges up to a mile. Single RAK Hotspot V2 earn less as they can only issue Challenges over the internet, and can’t participate in Proof-of-Coverage.
