Notice: Due to the silicon chip price increase, the price for RAK4260 has changed from 8.8 USD to 13.8 USD.

Since the stock is still unstable and could be more expensive, we recommend RAK3172 as an alternative item that has the same hardware form factor for future designs.

Product Description

The RAK4260 LPWAN Module is based on Microchip's ATSAMR34J18B. It is a SiP device integrating a 32-bit ARM Cortex -M0+ MCU with a LoRa Transceiver in a compact surface mount package.

The SAMR chip provides a number of highly configurable peripherals (configurable as I2C/SPI/UART interfaces). There are 12-bit ADC in addition to the aforementioned.

It is a perfect solution for any LoRaWAN® end node developer. The integration of the MCU and LoRa® transceiver reduces the size and minimizes costs. Having such a compact solution within a single package reduces time to market and allows for rapid development and deployment for a number of scenarios.

RAK4260 is a solution that is cost-efficient and flexible. It can be deployed in a wide variety of IoT scenarios that require the long-range connectivity and great battery life that LoRaWAN® provides.

If you need a complete development board, you can choose the RAK4260 Evaluation Board that has RAK4260 LoRa® Board pre-soldered in RAK4261, with RAK5005 development board included.

Complete documentation of this product can be found on our website documentation page.

Questions and Answers

  • Any news about FCC certification?

    The module is fully compliant.

you can find the certification documentation here:

    https://downloads.rakwireless.com/en/LoRa/RAK4260/Certification-Report/

  • How do I get more information (datasheet, pinouts, full specs including TX power, etc.) on this module?

You can find all the information about the module here:   https://downloads.rakwireless.com/en/LoRa/RAK4260/

  • What Level of Over the Air Programming does this chip allow for, how complex is it to change the firmware, how complex external circuitry is required for OTAP/OTAF?

The is no such functionality present, there is also no plan for it in the future as of now.
Changing the firmware to add this functionality would require to write it from scrats. As for how complex this is I can not say, as it is circumstantial.

  • Will you have FCC/IC modular certification with reference matching circuit and antenna for US915?

We are working on the certification., You can expect it mid of next month.

  • Can the SF and BW be configured?

You can configure the module to work in DR0 to DR5 as per LoRaWAN standard 1.0.2.

  • Kindly allow buying of the module in less quantity, may be 1 or 2, for testing.. 30 is too big a number to buy for enthusiasts.

Might I suggest you look at the Evaluation board: https://store.rakwireless.com/products/rak4260-evaluation-board
It is specifically designed for testing of the RAK4260 module.

  • Not allowing smaller orders of the module alone isn't great guys. I don't want to buy 30 of these things to test in a project only to have 29 them gathering dust if it doesn't work out. Please offer single modules at a slightly higher price.

We understand your frustration. You make a valid point. I will discuss it with management and see what we can do about it. It is also my opinion that it is quite reasonable to have a few units for testing first. Perhaps a good choice for testing purposes is the Evaluation board:

  • Hello, When is documentation/reference manual available ? Which certifications papers are done or planned ?

The documents available now can be found here: https://downloads.rakwireless.com/en/LoRa/RAK4260/
As for certification, a guide will be coming in the weeks to follow.
